Commission Policy

Commissioning a custom oil painting is a collaborative journey. This policy outlines our process, terms, and what you can expect when working with our artists to create your unique masterpiece.

The Commission Process

Commissioning artwork begins with a consultation to understand your vision, space, and preferences. Our artists work closely with you throughout the creation process, providing updates and opportunities for feedback to ensure the final piece exceeds your expectations.

The typical commission timeline spans 4-8 weeks, depending on the complexity and size of the work. Rush orders may be accommodated for an additional fee, subject to artist availability.

Initial Consultation

During the initial consultation, we discuss your vision in detail. This includes the subject matter, style preferences, color palette, dimensions, and intended display location. We encourage you to share reference images, color samples, or any materials that help communicate your vision.

Our artists will provide recommendations based on their expertise and your requirements. This collaborative approach ensures that the final artwork harmonizes with your space while reflecting your personal aesthetic.

Pricing and Payment

Commission pricing is determined by size, complexity, and the specific requirements of your project. Following the consultation, we provide a detailed quote that includes the artwork, any preliminary sketches, and shipping costs.

Our standard payment structure requires a 50% deposit to begin work, with the remaining 50% due upon completion and before shipping. For commissions exceeding A$2,000, we offer a three-payment plan: 40% deposit, 30% at the halfway point, and 30% upon completion.

Design Approval Process

Before applying paint to canvas, our artists create preliminary sketches or digital mockups for your approval. This stage allows for adjustments to composition, color scheme, and overall direction. We typically provide 1-2 rounds of revisions at no additional cost.

Once the design is approved, the artist begins the painting process. Major changes to the composition or concept after this point may incur additional fees and extend the timeline.

Work in Progress Updates

We believe in transparency throughout the creation process. Our artists provide progress photos at key stages, typically when the underpainting is complete and again when the work is approximately 70% finished. These updates allow you to see your vision taking shape and provide feedback if needed.

While we welcome your input during these updates, we ask that you trust the artist's professional judgment regarding technique and execution. The final 30% of the painting process involves fine details and refinements that bring the work to life.

Completion and Approval

Upon completion, we provide high-resolution photographs of the finished artwork for your final approval. Minor adjustments to color balance or small details can be made at this stage if they differ significantly from the approved design.

Once you approve the final artwork, the remaining payment is processed, and we arrange for professional photography (if not already completed), varnishing, and preparation for shipping or delivery.

Revisions and Satisfaction

We are committed to your satisfaction. If the completed artwork does not match the approved design or your reasonable expectations based on our discussions, we will work with you to make it right. This may include additional refinements or, in rare cases, a complete reworking of the piece.

Please note that subjective differences in taste or changes to your preferences after work has begun are not grounds for revision without additional cost. We encourage clear communication throughout the process to ensure alignment.

Copyright and Reproduction

Upon full payment, you own the physical artwork. However, the artist retains copyright to the image, which includes the right to reproduce the work in portfolios, exhibitions, and promotional materials. If you require exclusive rights or wish to prevent the artist from reproducing the image, this must be negotiated and documented separately, with associated fees.

Timeline and Delays

We provide estimated timelines based on our current workload and the complexity of your commission. While we make every effort to complete work within these estimates, artistic creation is not always predictable. We will communicate any delays promptly and provide updated timelines.

Delays caused by factors outside our control, such as supply chain issues or the artist's illness, will be communicated with revised timelines. Force majeure events may result in extended delays, and we reserve the right to cancel commissions with full refund in extreme circumstances.

Cancellation Policy

If you need to cancel your commission before work begins, your deposit will be refunded minus a 10% administrative fee. Cancellations after work has begun will be refunded on a prorated basis based on work completed, minus materials costs.

If we are unable to complete your commission due to circumstances on our end, you will receive a full refund including your deposit.

Shipping and Installation

Commissioned artworks are shipped with the same care and insurance as our gallery pieces. We can also arrange for white-glove delivery and installation services in select locations for an additional fee.
